Like many high school seniors, my high school graduation was canceled due to COVID-19. Although I was looking forward to an in-person ceremony, as an online student for the past seven years, I was comfortable doing this virtually.
While many were thrown into online learning due to the pandemic, I was ahead of the curve. I enrolled at the Insight School of Indiana to get opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Coming from a small town in Indiana, where my bus ride took over an hour, accessing my classes from home opened many more possibilities.
With online school I maintained my own pace to suit my needs and thrive in class. My academic success even led me to be salutatorian of my graduating class.
As I sat in front of my webcam and recorded my graduation speech, I thought of the amazing opportunities I had in high school that enabled my success and independence. Now, I’m headed to Vincennes University in the fall and then Purdue University to pursue a career in aviation.
This wouldn’t be possible without the ability to choose my school. Having online school as an option enabled our family to make the best decision for my future.
