COLUMBUS, Ohio — A truckload of joy made its way to Nationwide Children’s Hospital on Sunday.
An annual tradition was back to make a big splash and set a record. It’s also sure to make the holiday season a bit brighter for hundreds of young patients.
Boxes and boxes were packed into the truck and they were each filled with toys.
The big donation comes from the Ohio Virtual Academy.
But the donations on that day did not just come from the big truck.
“For my birthday, I got a bunch of my family and friends together, and we donated to Children’s Hospital for Christmas,” said 13-year-old McKenzie Adams.
So, she dropped off her birthday haul to add to a huge pile of toys.
The Ohio Virtual Academy more than doubled its donations this year. The total: 20,283 toys for Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
That more than doubles last year’s amount, which was 9,224.
The toys will be sorted and put into a holiday shop at the hospital so families can pick out gifts for patients staying there.
Other gifts will be put into playrooms throughout the hospital.
